The truth is, American Anders Haugen originally finished fourth in ski jumping at the 1924 Winter Olympics. Fifty years later, sports historian Jacob Vaage noticed a possible scoring error involving Norwegian competitor Thoralf Strømstad. After carefully reviewing the records, Vaage confirmed that Haugen had been wrongly scored. Ultimately, in 1974, at the age of 86, Haugen was finally awarded the Olympic bronze medal, receiving the full honors and celebration befitting the achievement.
