Also today, an Olympian reveals the painful setback that was quietly haunting him during his 200m final at Worlds, long before the race ever started.

The six-time Olympic medallist continues to support young people through the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation, which provides education, athletics, leadership and health programmes in her hometown of East St. Louis, Illinois.

In 2026, the foundation opened the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Food, Agriculture, Nutrition Innovation Center, a 24,000-square-foot facility where young people can learn about urban agriculture, nutrition, science and technology.

The centre is part of Joyner-Kersee’s wider effort to improve access to healthy food and career opportunities in East St. Louis.

The foundation also runs after-school and summer programmes, athletics initiatives, STEAM learning and nutrition education, while its “Winning in Life” curriculum helps students develop skills beyond the playing field.
