At 52, Austrian snowboarder Claudia Riegler made history at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, becoming the oldest athlete ever to compete in an Olympic snowboarding event.
Her journey has long been shaped by defying the “too old” label, one she first faced in her early 30s. Undeterred, Riegler competed in the Women’s Parallel Giant Slalom at the Livigno Snow Park, once again proving that age is no barrier to elite competition. And she isn’t done yet. Riegler has indicated that she plans to continue competing through the 2027 World Championships on home soil in Austria, a moment she has described as the “nice ending” she envisions for her extraordinary, record-breaking career.
