On 24th September 1988, Greg Louganis completes one of diving's greatest comebacks, winning platform gold at the Seoul Olympics. This was just days after splitting his head open on the springboard during the prelims of a different event, needing stitches before returning to compete.
It makes him the first male diver in history to sweep both the springboard and platform titles at consecutive Olympics, a feat still unmatched.
Among his winning dives is the dreaded 3½ reverse somersault, nicknamed the "Dive of Death" after it claimed the life of a Soviet diver five years earlier — a tragedy Louganis had watched unfold in person.
